Ukrainian Winter Grains Overwintered Successfully: Straight Harvest to Be Expected

Optimistic news came for Ukrainian farmers from specialists of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine: Most of the winter grains emerged from the winter in strong condition. According to recent estimates, only no more than 10% of crops can be classified as weak after wintering.

Due to the favorable winter conditions, scientific reports indicate that the condition of most winter grain crops is good or satisfactory. This creates a reliable foundation for the future harvest. It has been determined that 6-10% of crops are in a weak or thinned state, but this is an indicator that fits within the normal limits of natural thinness.

With the onset of spring and temperatures rising above 5°C, the growth of winter crops is observed. The plants began to form crown roots ranging from 1 to 4.5 cm in length, which is an indicator of healthy development. In addition, an increase in wet weight and growth cones is recorded, which is important for subsequent spring tillering.

Experts emphasize the importance of early spring fertilization, which is designed to stimulate not only tillering, but also to ensure the growth of fresh green mass. It is recommended to carry out subsequent foliar fertilizations, which will help stabilize and ensure uniform development of plants at all stages of their vegetation season.

Considering these data, we can predict that Ukrainian farmers can expect a strong and healthy harvest this year, which is important not only for the domestic market, but also for supporting the country’s economic stability on the international agricultural arena.
